We moved house on Friday the 25th of October. I can’t emphasize enough how grateful I am for the advise I was given to start packing ASAP! If I hadn’t taken the advise to heart, I would have been a broken woman today 😅 I packed my house for three weeks.
Moving house with little ones is HARD! Period! Especially when you don’t have grandparents close by to ship them to for a few days so you can unpack in peace. BUT Joel and I managed and are managing. What’s really important is that on moving day, we had a lot of help.
Today Tuesday is the first time I am having a slow day since last week Thursday. I am really looking forward to doing some embroidery. Here are a couple videos introducing you to parts of our home ☺️
Sharing is caring ☺️ here are some moving tips that other moms gave me that I found helpful.
I know everyone’s capacity to be organized and work really hard varies so remember to do you when you are moving 😊 ignore the advise that will add more stress to your life.
Label your boxes! Everyone of them! Buy cheap colourful labels off Amazon or if you don’t have access to labels, buy colour markers and label those boxes sis! On moving day friends and family didn’t need to ask Joel and I where anything was going cause it was all labeled.
Start packing ASAP! I am very very organized and a minimalist and it took me three weeks to pack our house, Joel helped some but the bulk of it was me. If you not as organized and you have more than a month until your moving date, start packing!
Start talking to your kids as soon as you know you are moving. Talk about it as much as you can. And when you move set up their bedroom first. It has helped mine with transitioning.
If you are organized and love being on top of things, make sure you have clean sheets and PJs packed and ready to be used in the new home.
Don’t be proud, ask for help! My friend pulled up with a $100 Uber Eats gift card 🥹 she and another friend made three meals for us. My sister in law and Joel’s brother drove 8 hours to help us move and she did an amazing job organizing my kitchen with another friend. I was not there when she did it all! If you can hire someone to clean the house you are leaving. Do it! Why suffer doing it all sis? To prove what?
The boxes will NEVER be enough. NEVER.
Your kids may get sick the week of the move, another reason to not leave packing for the last minute. Eliana was sick the week of the move and Amari a few days after the move. Yes I was working on very little sleep.
If you love cooking and hosting, you probably have a lot in your kitchen. Don’t leave your kitchen for last. My kitchen almost broke me 😅 every time I thought I was done, I found more things to pack. This was true on moving day.
You may like me loose your temper with your husband a few times, cry when the kitchen refuses to be completely packed and shout at the kids for not listening BUT you did it! You moved house! Nobody is perfect! Find simple but fun things to celebrate your move!
On that note, let me go celebrate by stitching my koala ☺️
